CeeDee Lamb unfazed by Cowboys DBs, raising questions for defense ahead of season image

The Cowboys defense remains a concern as the team prepares for the new season. Defensive struggles contributed to last year's 7-10 record, and fixing those issues has been a key focus. However, progress may be slow after star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb acknowledged the lack of real challenges from the defensive backs in training camp.

The Athletic's Jon Machota relayed Lamb's comments about the DBs. When asked which Cowboys DBs had "given him hell," Lamb replied, "Honestly, none of them. They haven’t given me hell. But I will say, it is great competing with these guys."

Dallas' defense struggled in the 2024 season. They allowed an average of 27.5 points per game, ranking near the bottom of the league (31st), and gave up 2,331 rushing yards over the season, placing their rush defense at 27th in the NFL.

The defensive issues were something former NFL head coach Jon Gruden pointed out last month.

"I don't think their defense other than Parsons has an identity," Gruden said. "You know, and [DeMarcus] Lawrence is gone. ... [DeMarvion] Overshown is a great linebacker but he's hurt, I just don't know what their defensive mentality is."

Fixing the Cowboys' defensive issues starts with resolving Micah Parsons' contract situation. As the leader of the defense, Parsons sets the tone and identity for the unit. Securing his future with the team is a crucial first step toward unifying the defense.
