The Baltimore Ravens, along with the rest of the NFL teams, are set to begin training camp shortly.
That means we're one step closer to the regular season, and we'll soon have a good idea of where each team's roster stands. For the Ravens, on paper, it seems like this is one of the best overall rosters in the league.
The team made it to the playoffs last season, and seemingly only got better this offseason. Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and cornerbacks Chidobe Awuzie and Jaire Alexander were brought in, while offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley was kept in the fold as well.
There are plenty of talented position groups on this team, but one perhaps stands out above the rest- the secondary.
Recently, John Kosko of Pro Football Focus identified the Ravens' secondary as the best in the league. The unit already boasted Nate Wiggins, Marlon Humphrey, and Kyle Hamilton, and then Malaki Starks, Awuzie, and Alexander were added this offseason.
Regarding that ranking, Kosko offered the following:
The Ravens added PFF’s ninth-highest-graded cornerback from a year ago, Jaire Alexander, this offseason to pair with the NFL's seventh-highest-graded cornerback, Marlon Humphrey. They also drafted Malaki Starks, PFF’s top-ranked safety in the 2025 NFL Draft, to join the league’s best safety, Kyle Hamilton. While safety Ar’Darius Washington suffered a torn Achilles tendon in May and is likely to miss the entire 2025 season, Baltimore’s philosophy of drafting the best player available has given the unit tremendous depth, assuming Starks lives up to his draft status.
Don’t forget the Ravens selected Nate Wiggins in the first round of the 2024 draft and signed Chidobe Awuzie in free agency. This is a secondary that could be extremely difficult to throw against in 2025.
As Kosko mentioned, the Ravens were already loaded and they're seemingly even more loaded now.
Alexander was added from the Green Bay Packers, and the veteran corner earned the ninth-best grade among all corners last year. Humphrey, who has been reliable for years now, had the seventh-best grade last year in his own right.
Hamilton is probably already the best safety in the league. The former first-round pick earned an elite 90.1 grade in 2024, which was the third-best grade among 171 qualified safeties. Now, Hamilton is joined by Starks, who was Pro Football Focus' top-rated safety in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Ravens were the only team in the AFC North to land in the top 10 of the secondary rankings. Behind Baltimore, the Chiefs, Broncos, Texans, and Patriots round out the top five.
