The New York Giants have a crowded situation at the quarterback position and one NFL analyst thinks the team could dump one of its signal-callers in a trade with the Baltimore Ravens to give the AFC North squad a new backup for Lamar Jackson.
The Giants signed both Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in free agency to give themselves a pair of veteran options at the position. However, things got really interesting after New York took Jaxson Dart in the 2025 NFL draft.
It's very possible the Giants will opt to part with one of their quarterbacks, and with Wilson expected to start and Dart being the possible long-term solution in the Big Apple, that makes Winston the most likely candidate to be traded.
Last Word on Sports' David Latham agrees with that notion, and as a result he has proposed a trade between the Giants and Ravens that sends Winston to Baltimore.
"The Baltimore Ravens have one of the game’s premier quarterbacks in Lamar Jackson," Latham wrote. "Unfortunately, the backup quarterback position leaves something to be desired. Cooper Rush is better than Josh Johnson, last year’s backup, but he’s still nothing to write home about. Nobody is saying Jameis Winston could win a Super Bowl with this roster, but the trade candidate could keep this near-perfect ship afloat if Jackson misses a few weeks to injury."
The Ravens did sign Cooper Rush during the offseason to improve the situation behind Jackson, but he's anything but a guarantee to keep the team afloat if the superstar signal-caller gets hurt for any amount of time.
That's a problem for a Ravens team that has Super Bowl aspirations, so it wouldn't be totally shocking to see Baltimore make a play for Winston, who is certainly erratic but also offers more upside than Rush.
That said, having an extra veteran backup is more of a luxury than anything else, and with the Ravens not having a ton of cap space to work with for the remainder of the year, chances are that's not a move Baltimore will make.
However, if Rush or Jackson were to get hurt prior to the start of the 2025 season, we could then see the Ravens springing for someone like Winston, who is likely to be the subject of trade speculation for the rest of his time in New York.
