There are football fans who already know all about the journey of David Sills V.

But for fans of the Atlanta Falcons, it's a story that's worth knowing if it isn't already.

That's because Sills has made a very strong case to be on Atlanta's roster at the start of the season.

"Sills, who has been Kirk Cousins' favorite target in practice, had two catches on the first series Friday and was then removed from the game, potentially indicating that the coaches have seen enough and Sills has a 53-man roster spot already," wrote ESPN's Marc Raimondi.

Sills was such a promising quarterback growing up that he committed to play at USC when he was in just seventh grade.

He decommitted from the Trojans four years later and went to West Virginia as a QB, but he moved to wide receiver shortly after his arrival.

After a stint at a junior college, Sills returned to WVU and led the nation in touchdown catches.

Sills went undrafted in 2019, and he has since suited up in the regular season for the Giants (2021, 2022) and the Broncos (2023).

Sills had 13 catches for 123 yards in his two seasons with the Giants, but he didn't catch a pass in three games for Denver.

Sills was a practice squad player for the Broncos in 2024, and the Falcons signed him after the season ended.

He's 29 years old now and still the impressive athlete he once was, at 6-foot-3 and 211 pounds.

The Falcons have Drake London atop the receiver depth chart, but especially with Darnell Mooney hurt, there are roster spots to be had.

Sills is making the case for one, which would be a cool continuation of a football notoriety that began long ago, at a different position, and has become the story of a grinder who won't give up on his dream.
