Training camp is right around the corner for the Atlanta Falcons, who are aiming for a breakthrough season—one that ends with a playoff berth and the end of a long rebuilding phase. With their young stars now having had time to develop, this could finally be the year they take off.
One key player to watch is Drake London. A contract extension for London is expected at some point, as he has been the highest-graded wide receiver from the 2022 draft class, according to PFF. On Monday, Garrett Wilson of the Jets received a massive contract, and since he was part of the same draft class as London, a similar deal could be on the horizon.
“If second-year quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and London showcase the chemistry they displayed in a couple games last season throughout the 2025 campaign, London is going to fetch quite the average salary on his next contract," Sports Illustrated’s Dave Holcomb wrote. "London averaged 117.3 yards per game and 16 yards per reception during Penix's three starts last season."
Wilson's new deal likely increased London’s market value, but if Terry McLaurin and the Commanders reach a new agreement soon, Atlanta may be facing even steeper costs.
“The Falcons would be smart to sign Drake London to an extension before Terry McLaurin gets his deal done,” BroTalk of The Reporting Eligible Podcast posted.
There had been speculation that the Commanders might trade McLaurin, but that’s no longer expected—an extension appears imminent. Waiting too long on London’s deal could end up costing Atlanta significantly more.

There’s no doubt that locking in London long-term is the right move. But the higher his price tag climbs, the harder it may become to also pay Bijan Robinson and other key players what they deserve. London and Penix looked strong together at the end of last season, and this year, Falcons fans will get a full season to watch the promising young duo in action.
