Falcons to make NFL international game history, reportedly revealed before full schedule release image

The Atlanta Falcons are aiming to win their division for the first time in several seasons. They were in prime position to capture the NFC South last year after building a four-game lead in the standings, but things didn’t go as planned.

This season, Michael Penix Jr. is expected to be the full-time starter—health permitting—which suggests the Falcons are preparing to move on from Kirk Cousins' contract. Penix is already connecting with former Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who has taken on a mentoring role for the second-year player. Ryan recently checked in with Penix over the phone and invited him to dinner in the coming weeks.

“Mike, I’ll see you for dinner next week or two," Ryan told Penix.

The Falcons are also set to be part of history in Week 10 of the regular season, according to a schedule leak. Atlanta will play in the first-ever NFL game held in Berlin, Germany. While Germany has previously hosted games in Munich and Frankfurt, this will be the league’s debut in the capital city. The Falcons will face off against the Indianapolis Colts, the designated team for this historic matchup.

“After four successful international games in-market across Munich and Frankfurt, we're thrilled to have the Colts as the designated team for our first-ever regular season game in Berlin in 2025—a city that holds so much football history and is a true testament to the international expansion and growth of the league,” said NFL Germany GM Alexander Steinforth.

It makes perfect sense that Atlanta is playing the Colts, as both franchises have marketing rights in Germany. By Week 10, both teams are expected to be in top form and playing their best football.

Until then, the Falcons will aim to make an early statement this season, while the Colts continue to sort out their quarterback situation. Atlanta is currently 1-2 in international games, so the goal will be to even that record.
