William Hardrick, a defensive back who recently transferred to play for Austin Peay, has died, the university announced on Wednesday.
He was 22 years old.
Prior to his time with the Governors, Hardrick played at Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio). A three-star talent from Adamsville, Alabama, Hardrick starred as a receiver and defensive back during his days at Minor High School.
After playing just one game with the Bulldogs as a freshman, Hardrick joined the RedHawks, where he tallied 32 tackles and five pass deflections across two seasons. Miami paid tribute to Hardrick on X Wednesday afternoon.

Austin Peay announced the death of Hardrick on Wednesday.
The school did not provide an immediate cause of death.
"William Hardrick was an exceptional young man, and our team is heartbroken by his loss," Austin Peay head coach Jeff Faris said in a statement. "He made everyone around him better and has made a real impact both on and off the field. We lift up the Hardrick family in prayer as we grieve this tragic loss with them."
The Limestone County (Alabama) coroner identified Hardrick as the victim of a car wreck on I-65 South on Tuesday night, per WAFF 48. The crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday evening. A vehicle traveling south on I-65 lost control, left the roadway, hit a fence and rolled several times before coming to a stop.
"We are truly saddened by the passing of William Hardrick, a new member of our football program and the Austin Peay family," said APSU Vice President and Director of Athletics Gerald Harrison. "All of our thoughts and prayers are with the Hardrick Family today. We will do everything we can to support his friends, family, and teammates at this time."
