Michigan and Notre Dame football have had their fair share of recruiting battles over the years. Another recruiting battle came to a close on Friday as 2026 four-star cornerback Khary Adams announced his commitment to Notre Dame over Michigan and Penn State.

Adams played his high school career at Loyola Blakefield in Towson, MD, and is one of the top cornerback prospects in the 2026 recruiting class. According to Composite, Adams is the 75th-ranked player and the 9th-best cornerback in the 2026 class.

Adams spoke about his commitment to Notre Dame.

“I have been up to Notre Dame four times and I can’t even describe what it is like,” Adams told On3 director of recruiting Chad Simmons before publicizing his decision on Friday. “There are no words for it. It’s just different. It is something you have never seen before. Notre Dame is special.”

With the addition of Adams to their 2026 recruiting class, the Fighting Irish now have the second-best recruiting class for 2026 behind USC. It’s still early, but in addition to Adams, Notre Dame has 18 four-star commits for 2026.

For the Wolverines, despite missing out on Adams, head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan are still in a good position with several other defensive backs that they are currently recruiting. The maize and blue have four-star defensive back Brody Jennings, who committed in the 2026 class.

Michigan is also still in the running to land other defensive players, including four-star Donovan Webb and Andre Clarke. The Wolverines are also competing for Chace Calicut and Jordan Deck.
