High expectations and pressure have been placed on Bryce Underwood's shoulders since well before he decided to commit to the Michigan football program on Nov. 21, 2024.
Underwood was widely considered one of the top recruits in the class of 2025 at the time, landing at the No. 1 spot in rankings put together by 247Sports, ESPN and On3. And now, his upcoming freshman season will be one of the most highly anticipated of any Wolverines player in recent memory.
As preseason accolades continue to roll in on all fronts ahead of the 2025 college football season, Underwood found himself earning one of them.
Underwood is Michigan's lone representative on On3's 2025 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team
On3 released its 2025 Preseason True Freshman All-American Team on Tuesday. Unsurprisingly, Underwood was one of the headliners — not only appearing front-and-center in the graphic complementing the article, but also earning the distinction of being the top freshman signal caller in the country.
"Bryce Underwood was our wire-to-wire No. 1 overall prospect in the 2025 cycle and is the most gifted quarterback prospect to come through high school football in the past few years. Underwood became the heavy favorite to become Michigan’s starter the second he flipped from LSU to the Wolverines last November," On3's Charlie Power wrote. "The 6-foot-4, 230-pounder has a huge arm and plus athleticism. He’ll need to continue refining his mechanics, but the potential is sky high and should make for appointment viewing."
The Detroit native put together an illustrious high-school career at Belleville High School, serving as the varsity team's starting quarterback all four seasons. He led the Tigers to two Division I MHSAA State Championships (in 2021 and 2022) and is credited with 12,919 all-purpose yards (including 11,488 passing yards) and 179 total touchdowns (including 152 passing scores) over the course of his career.
