Arch Manning era kicks off as Texas football sells out 2025 season image

The Texas Longhorns will open the 2025 football season in front of a packed Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium, as every ticket for the home slate is officially gone. The program’s official account called it “the hottest ticket in town” when announcing the sellout, a sign of the anticipation building in Austin.

Arch Manning takes over as Longhorns’ starting quarterback

That buzz is tied to more than just another season in the Southeastern Conference. It’s the beginning of Arch Manning’s run as the Longhorns’ starting quarterback.

Manning, the nephew of NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning and grandson of former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning, has carried one of the most famous last names in football since his high school days at Isidore Newman in New Orleans. After redshirting his first year in Austin and serving as a backup in 2024, the former five-star recruit now takes full control of the Texas offense.

The 2024 season saw the Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff Semifinals for the second straight year, with Manning making cameo appearances but spending most of his time learning behind the starter. This fall, he steps onto the field as QB1, tasked with leading a roster loaded with returning talent and championship expectations.

Of course, the Longhorns start their season on the road at Ohio State. It's the biggest game of the weekend. Following that, though, Texas will begin its 2025 campaign at home on September 6 against San Jose State.

The schedule features early non-conference matchups before the heart of SEC play arrives in November, including rivalry games against Arkansas and Texas A&M. Every seat for every home game is already claimed, making the atmosphere in Austin one of the most anticipated in the country.

The pressure is enormous. The Manning name brings attention wherever it goes, but now Arch has the chance to define his own college legacy in the same stadium where the Longhorns hope to make another push toward the playoffs. And with the entire season already sold out, there will be no shortage of eyes on every snap he takes.
