P.J. Haggerty wanted someone to pay him $4 million in the college basketball transfer portal.
The Memphis transfer and new Kansas State commit won’t be getting that much. But he’ll still see a solid payday.
College basketball insider Adam Zagoria revealed the contract value for Haggerty with the Wildcats.
Haggerty will get a $2 million base NIL value. There are also $500K in incentives in the contract, which if Haggerty reaches them will get to a total contract value of $2.5 million, according to Zagoria.
Reports indicated Memphis only wanted to pay Haggerty about $1.2 million, so this transfer move may have landed Haggerty about double the payday, if he can hit his incentives.
The 6-foot-3 guard from Crosby, Texas is familiar with the transfer portal. He spent his first college basketball season at TCU, his second at Tulsa and his third at Memphis.
Haggerty averaged a sterling 21.2 points per game for Tulsa to earn his spot at Memphis, then put up 21.7 points per game in 2024-25 to earn second-team All-American status. He also averaged 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game with the Tigers.
K-State had to pay up, but they got one of the best transfers available.
If Haggerty can get the Wildcats to the dance, it’ll be worth it.
