Trade proposal sees Knicks landing two ex-Celtics fan favorites in shocking move image

The New York Knicks went all in a season ago when they traded Julius Randle for star center Karl-Anthony Towns.

It certainly helped, but the Knicks fell short in the Eastern Conference Finals last season against the Indiana Pacers.

Now, with the East seemingly wide open, they could run it back, or there is always the option of re-structuring their roster after witnessing their current one fall short.

Sports Illustrated’s Jackson Caldwell and Rohan Raman propose an idea where they ship away Towns in exchange for a player with some championship experience.

“While they paid a big price to get Towns last offseason, could they perhaps upgrade at the position and get more depth to round out the team?” Caldwell and Raman said Monday.

“The Blazers seem to be trying to take (the) next step by bringing in veteran talent to help with their young pieces, but they could use more offense. They should have one of the best defenses in the NBA, but their offense is a major question mark.”

The proposed trade involves a third team other than the Portland Trail Blazers, the Atlanta Hawks.

Portland would get Towns and Pacôme Dadiet, Atlanta would receive Duop Reath, and New York would get Jrue Holiday, Robert Williams, and a 2028 first-round pick.

It may be unrealistic to break up the core in New York, but the Trail Blazers are in dire need of a scorer, and Towns might be the perfect option.

Holiday adds to an already elite defensive unit, and isn’t greedy on the offensive side, making him the perfect backcourt partner for Jalen Brunson.
