The second apron isn't anything that a team in the NBA wants to deal with, but it's often something that contending teams will have a tough time avoiding. Ultimately, for a squad like the New York Knicks, it could become an issue over the next few years.
However, especially after the Mikal Bridges trade, fans might be a bit worried about it happening sooner rather than later.

Despite that, NBA analyst Bobby Marks recently told Knicks fans not to get too worried about the second apron. Not only do the Knicks have most of their core locked up, but he added that even if the Knicks get into the second apron, if they believe they have an opportunity to win a championship, it might not be the worst thing.
“I wouldn’t get caught up about Second Apron in New York,” Marks said on NBA on ESPN. “Because you’ve got… your seven core players under contract next year… and if you go into second apron, you go into second apron if you think your team can win a championship.”
There isn't a Knicks fan in the world who would be upset about the team going into the second apron if they won a championship. At the end of the day, the goal in the NBA is to win a championship.
If the Knicks accomplished that but are in the second apron, there isn't any reason for anybody to be upset about it.
Perhaps there could be some changes to the rest of the roster over the next few years because of the second apron, but as he noted, they're all under contract next year, and if things go as planned, New York should have an opportunity to win it all.
