The New York Knicks have yet to hire a head coach, a somewhat questionable decision given that the offseason is underway. Free agency is set to open on Monday night, and the Knicks need to have a head coach in place to help assemble a roster.
With multiple coaches being interviewed, the hope is that the Knicks will land on someone in the near future.
According to a recent report, there might be a favorite in the building. According to Ian Begley of SNY, there have been supporters inside the Knicks’ brass for former Sacramento Kings head coach Mike Brown.
“James Borrego is the fourth known interview the Knicks have conducted for their head-coaching search. Mike Brown, Taylor Jenkins and Micah Nori have also interviewed for the job. I’d be lying if I said I knew where things stood entering the weekend, but I know Brown has made a good impression during the interview process and garnered support,” he wrote.
Brown is a good offensive mind, something that the Knicks are looking for.
However, after he was fired by the Sacramento Kings in the middle of last season, which came as a surprise, many have questioned what the problem was. There seemed to have been some drama in Sacramento, with multiple players suggesting that after they had departed.
The last thing the Knicks want is more drama, as there will be plenty in New York already.
Brown has been around the league for a very long time, coaching LeBron James’ Cleveland Cavaliers teams. He's proven that he can win at the highest level, and with the Knicks possibly being favorites in the Eastern Conference due to all the injuries, he needs to come in and make an immediate impact if they take that route.
