The NBA offseason is in full swing, and no team has taken advantage of that quite like the Milwaukee Bucks.
In just the first few days of free agency, the Bucks have stolen all of the headlines around the league with a couple of shocking moves. First, news came in that the Bucks were signing Myles Turner to a four-year, $107 million deal.
As if it wasn’t shocking enough that the Bucks were able to snag Turner away from Indiana, they followed that move up with waiving and stretching Damian Lillard. While those were surprising moves, they might have inched the Bucks closer to competing for a spot near the top of the East next season.
However, that sentiment isn’t held by many. In a recent ESPN article from Brian Windhorst and Tim Bontemps, the outlet polled eight scouts and executives to get their take on how the top of the East might look next season.
With each participant ranking their top four teams in the East for next season, the Bucks scored only one third-place vote and no others. If the scouts and executives get their predictions right, that could spell trouble in Milwaukee.
To keep Giannis Antetokounmpo around, the Bucks likely need to be competing for a championship. Considering the landscape of the East, the time is now to go all-in.
However, if Milwaukee is unable to prove it is a top-tier team, Antetokounmpo could soon ask out. Obviously, front office folks have been wrong about many things before, but it could be disastrous for Milwaukee if they get this one right.
