The Los Angeles Lakers made history recently with their sale to Mark Walters, which was valued at around $10 billion.
Jeanie Buss and the rest of the Buss family took over the franchise way back in 1979, but on Wednesday, 46 years later, they sold the franchise after originally buying it for $67.5 million.
This sale could mean a variety of things, and its impact on the players is still unknown.
Ryan Stano of Sports Illustrated broke down the deal, labeling winners and losers of the sale, and what it can mean. Star players Lebron James and Luka Dončić were named winners by Stano.
“The complaint from Lakers fans has been that the Lakers don't dump money into the roster like the Warriors or the Celtics have in the last few years. They pay the luxury tax, but they don't go all-in,” Stano said on Friday. “That could change now that Walter is funding the team. He has done that with the Dodgers, and that has turned them into multi-time World Series champions.

Luka Dončić and LeBron James stand to benefit from Walter spending more money to improve the roster around those two. Dončić will benefit longer because he'll be on the team for the next decade or so.”
For most, the sale won't have any effect, but like Stano writes, James and especially Dončić will be the most prominent figures on the team moving forward, and the Lakers could now have some more wiggle room when it comes to bringing in desired players.
