Now that the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2024-25 season is officially over, the hot takes regarding the organization’s offseason direction have returned.
An ex-NBA point guard recently created an eyebrow-raising trade scenario, swapping Luka Doncic for a flamboyant three-time All-Star.
“I would get Luka up out of here, me, being honest, I would — listen, for Ant-Man (Anthony Edwards), or Shai (Gilgeous-Alexander),” Ty Lawson said on the Gil Arena’s podcast last Thursday.
Doncic and Edwards faced off in the playoffs for the second consecutive season. As a member of the Dallas Mavericks, Doncic defeated Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves in an exciting five-game 2024 Western Conference finals series.
This year, the tables turned completely, as Edwards, known for being an outspoken phenom who doesn’t lack confidence, guided Minnesota to a 4-1 first-round defeat over Doncic and the Lakers.
Doncic averaged 30.2 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game, while Edwards contributed 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 6.2 assists to help set up a Western Conference semifinals date with the Golden State Warriors.

There’s no question that Edwards’ captivating personality would make for tremendous entertainment in Los Angeles.
From hilarious on-court antics to must-see pre- and post-game press conferences, Edwards would become one of the most popular Lakers in town.
However, it’s fair to say that considering Los Angeles appears laser-focused on getting Doncic to make a favorable offseason decision (signing a contract extension with the Lakers), a league-altering guard swap isn’t in the works.
Even with a poor defensive reputation, Doncic is already a fan-favorite in Los Angeles despite playing in less than 40 games with the organization, making Lawson’s trade idea unlikely in every way imaginable.
