The Los Angeles Lakers have had an active offseason, recently signing former Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart to finish it off.

Their new acquisitions provide depth and much more, strengthening their chances of a championship run with Luka Dončić and LeBron James on the roster.

Smart adds great value on the defensive end, but could cancel out his contributions on the offensive end with some of his wild tendencies.

Yahoo Sports’ Morten Stig Jensen raises some concerns about his fit on the roster and whether he provides enough spacing as a career 38.8% shooter.

“To Smart's credit, he is fully aware of his limitations and has thus never had a quick trigger." Jensen wrote Saturday. "In 11 seasons, he's yet to even crack 6,000 shot attempts, and that's always been an asset of his given how he's hit just 38.8% of his total shots over that span.

Offensively, there will be questions as to whether or not Dončić will have enough spacing around him, should he see a significant chunk of his minutes with Smart on the floor.”

Not to say Smart is a bad offensive player, but fans in Boston will tell you he is known to take some questionable shots.

This may be something that doesn’t sit right with Dončić and James, and frustrations may grow.

Although he is the last guard to win a Defensive Player of the Year award, that might not make up for his uncertainty on the offensive side.

Rumor has it that Dončić recruited Smart to the Lakers after his buyout with the Washington Wizards, and only time will tell if that is a decision he will regret.
