Former Boston Celtics champion Al Horford still remains without a team, with many expecting him to join the Golden State Warriors sometime over the next few weeks to months.

When the Warriors eventually make a decision on youngster Jonathan Kuminga, that's when they can open things up to players like Horford.

However, according to the latest report from Anthony Slater of ESPN, Horford could still be hanging them up. He noted that the Warriors are still operating as if Horford will play next season, but to hear that he’s still contemplating retirement at this stage of the offseason is certainly telling.

“Those around the league continue to ticket Horford to the Warriors when the free agency dust ultimately settles. The Kuminga situation continues to hold up business for them, keeping Horford in a holding pattern.

“But Horford is comfortable waiting. Retirement remains on the table, sources said, though the Warriors appear to be operating as if he is a firm part of their plan next season,” he wrote.

It's unfortunate that Horford can't finish his career with the Celtics, but Brad Stevens already said that it was off the table.

It's a challenging situation for the Celtics to be in, including Horford, but there isn't much of a reason to have him in Boston from either perspective next season.

Horford likely wants another chance to win a championship, and the Celtics can't offer him that, depending on when Jayson Tatum returns.

If Tatum returns earlier than expected, anything is possible, but there are too many factors for him to consider.
