Mavs' Nico Harrison makes announcement on firing Jason Kidd rumors after Cooper Flagg draft pick image

The rumors were still swirling about the Dallas Mavericks getting rid of head coach Jason Kidd.

After picking Cooper Flagg No. 1 overall on Wednesday night, team president Nico Harrison cleared things up when speaking with reporters.

“Is that still out there about J. Kidd? I thought I shut that down,” he said, per Dallas Morning News writer Brad Townsend. “He will be the coach next year."

Kidd hasn't received a contract extension, but Dallas also refused to let him interview for the Knicks vacancy, so it seemed like he might be safe.

Kidd has already been the Mavericks' coach for four seasons.

In that time with Dallas, Kidd has a 179-149 record.

He also spent four seasons with the Bucks and a season with the Nets.

In all, Kidd's career coaching record is 362-339, with a 31-33 mark in the postseason.

Kidd led the Mavs to the NBA Finals in 2024 before the wheels fell off.

He was a Hall of Fame player as a point guard, and Kidd continues to try to make the right choices along the way now as an NBA head coach.
