The Dallas Mavericks are expected to be in the point guard market with Kyrie Irving out for much of next season with a knee injury.
It remains uncertain when Irving will return, but there's a possibility that he could return late in the season.
Regardless, the Mavericks need a point guard to fill in, and there so happens to be one available who's arguably one of the best of all time.
Predicting free agent spots for the top players available around the league, Bleacher Report predicted that the Mavericks would land a future Hall of Famer in the form of Chris Paul.
“San Antonio may want Paul back because of who he is and what he's capable of doing, but with De'Aaron Fox, rookie of the year Stephon Castle and guard Dylan Harper (the Spurs' presumed No. 2 overall pick), the veteran may choose a team giving him a greater opportunity to play.
“While he has strong ties to Los Angeles (Lakers and Clippers), where his family has lived (don't count them out), he may go to a team with an injured starting point guard. Prediction: The Dallas Mavericks, who need a replacement guard until Kyrie Irving is healthy, use the TMLE on Paul,” they wrote.
Paul certainly isn't what he once was, but it's tough to blame him, given that he's 40 years old.
Nonetheless, he still proved a season ago with the San Antonio Spurs that he’s an above-average player, averaging 8.8 points and 7.4 assists.
He's far removed from his near 20-point-per-game and 10.0 assists days, but he's still a smart player and would fit in nicely with the other Mavericks veterans.
