Injuries are unfortunate for every player in the NBA, but Kyrie Irving's injury to the Dallas Mavericks had a significant impact in many ways. Irving, one of the better players in the league, got hurt at the worst time, unfortunately.
If he wants to secure the contract he was once seeking, it'll likely come in the form of a new deal, but at a lower price than what it was a few months ago.
Searching for his potential next contract and where he could play, Bleacher Report predicted that Irving would opt out of his contract and re-sign with the Mavericks on a three-year deal starting in the $30 to $35 million range per season.
“Irving can opt for a more immediate salary, but a slightly discounted three-year deal may benefit both sides. Irving gets more committed immediately; the Mavericks gain flexibility under the aprons to improve the squad.

It remains uncertain how Irving will recover from this injury, as knee problems can be particularly challenging, and he's only getting older at 33 years old.
However, he still averaged 24.7 points and 4.6 assists last season, shooting an impressive 47.3% from the field and 40.1% from 3-point range on 7.2 attempts per game.
With the decisions the Mavericks have made in recent years, there's not a chance they can move on from someone like Irving.
Unless they have a clear replacement, which doesn't exist on the market, it's much more likely that he'll return to Dallas on a new deal.
