The Dallas Mavericks’ big offseason move came in the NBA Draft, and their top pick might have set them up for a bright future.
Over the course of the past few weeks, the Mavericks have been looking for ways to build around their core, with Cooper Flagg now in the mix. With Kyrie Irving set to miss most of next season, Dallas coach Jason Kidd has already laid out a plan to use Flagg at point guard.
However, one of the top two-way point guards in the league thinks Flagg could be better in a different spot. In a recent episode of his What an Experience podcast, Lonzo Ball broke down where Flagg could thrive with the Mavericks.
“In today’s NBA, I would play him at the four,” Ball said.
While Flagg’s fit in today’s NBA is yet to be seen, his potential versatility gives him the opportunity to be a star at almost any position. Considering his ability to play big and still create for himself, if Ball got his way and threw Flagg at the four, he could immediately become one of the best at that position in the league.
However, Ball also noted that the Mavericks’ immense size in the frontcourt could push Flagg to the three, allowing Dallas to play an ultra-big lineup.
“If I play him at the three and I got [Daniel] Gafford or [Dereck] Lively in with [Anthony] Davis too, like, we better get every rebound,” Ball said.
The Mavericks might not get every rebound or be a perfect fit for Flagg when next season tips off, but if the No. 1 pick can continue to develop, he could soon be a seamless fit in any lineup at any position.
