Anthony Davis injury update: Mavericks star exits play-in game vs. Grizzlies with leg issue image

The Mavericks' endured a frustrating display in their Play-In Tournament matchup against the Grizzlies. A barrage of Memphis shots found their target, helping the Grizzlies cruise to a commanding lead in the game's first three quarters. Dallas offered little resistance — save for star Anthony Davis.

Davis was the lone bright spot in a dour Dallas display, pouring home buckets to keep the Mavericks within striking distance at different points in the affair. Ultimately, it wasn't enough, as the Mavs fell 120-106, ending their season.

To add injury to insult, Davis' outing took a toll on his body. The Dallas standout saw his night come to an early end after limping off the floor in the fourth quarter due to a right leg injury.

Anthony Davis injury update

Davis limped to the sideline with 8:12 left in the fourth quarter after appearing to be felled by an injury to his upper right leg.

He looked to have landed awkwardly the play before, missing a three-pointer badly on the previous possession.

Davis remained fixed to the sideline for the next two minutes or so, grabbing at his leg and applying a theragun to the problem area.

With Dallas down 17 and the result all but assured, a return to the game seemed unlikely — if not, downright unfathomable — for Davis, who poured in 38 points prior to his removal.

But with 6:13 left in the frame, Davis emerged from the bench, returning to the floor. He proceeded to sink a mid-range jumper, bringing his point tally to a round 40 for the day.

A few more Grizzlies baskets followed, but Davis, who continued to walk gingerly even after his reentry into the contest, soon returned to the bench once more, this time for good.
