The Boston Celtics have reportedly been interested in taking a guard in the 2025 NBA Draft, and Kam Jones could be a candidate to help shore up the club’s backcourt — especially if a franchise-altering trade materializes.

Boston is expected to entertain offers for Jrue Holiday and Derrick White while looking to bring in a cost-effective option in the backcourt. This comes in the wake of the club’s Eastern Conference semifinals loss to the Knicks, during which Jayson Tatum tore his right Achilles. Justin Quinn of USA Today identified Jones as a potential fit if the Celtics go that route.

A projected second-round pick, the Marquette product could provide immediate value at age 23. The 6-foot-4 guard is an effective scorer and playmaker who averaged 19.2 points, 5.9 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals across 34 starts in his senior season with the Golden Eagles. He also recorded four double-doubles and one triple-double during that span.

Jones is a do-it-all combo guard with strong finishing ability near the rim, though questions remain about his outside shot. He shot 36.5 percent from three-point range over his four-year college career but dipped to 31.1 percent in his final season.

Given Boston’s emphasis on high-volume three-point shooting, the team would likely aim to develop his shot at the next level.

While his age has impacted his draft stock, Jones could be ready to play a role for Boston right away — particularly if Holiday or White is no longer on the roster before Opening Night.
