The Boston Celtics have had plenty of important players over the past few years, but their championship roster rose above the rest.

Over the past year, the Celtics have slowly disbanded much of their 2024 championship-winning squad. As the team looks to enter its next chapter in 2026-27 after Jayson Tatum returns from his torn Achilles, Boston has spent much of this offseason focused on its financial situation.

From sending out Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis to letting Luke Kornet and likely Al Horford walk in free agency, Boston has had to lose many of its recent champions. Of course, the Celtics didn’t just begin losing some of their championship pieces.

Last season, Boston sent out one of its young guards who helped the team during its championship season. At the trade deadline, the Celtics traded Jaden Springer to the Houston Rockets, who immediately waived him.

However, the Utah Jazz were quick to scoop up Springer in the following weeks, eventually inking a multi-year deal with him. On Thursday, the Jazz announced that they have waived Springer after his half-season with the team.

Considering Springer’s solid stint to begin his career with the Philadelphia 76ers and his time in Boston, becoming an NBA champion, there should be some demand for Springer’s services elsewhere. Still, it is a crushing blow for a player who was in a championship parade just a year ago to see his NBA future on the line yet again.

With next season nearing, only time will tell if Springer can find a new home before tipoff.
