The Washington Nationals are replacing one of their most-veteran pitchers with a new guy.

The Nats had to put left-hander Andrew Chafin on the Injured List with a right hamstring strain.

In his place, they're summoning right-hander Ryan Loutos from Triple-A.

Loutos was just claimed off waivers from the Dodgers earlier in the week.

The 34-year old Chafin was strong through 11.1 innings with Washington since signing in early May. He had a 3.18 ERA and a 57.1% groundball rate, which is impressive. The mustachioed southpaw had yet to allow a home run.

Loutos is 26 years old and was never drafted. He attended Division III Washington University in St. Louis.

He has appeared in five MLB games, last year with the Cardinals and this year with the Dodgers.

Loutos had three scoreless appearances for St. Louis in 2024, but he gave up five runs in three innings this season for L.A.

The 6-foot-5 righty has a 4.69 career ERA in the minor leagues, almost entirely in relief.

He'd only made one appearance for Triple-A Rochester this week after the waiver claim, allowing one run and striking out one batter in one inning of work.

Loutos likely will only see the mound in low-stakes moments, but for the sake of his career, it's another shot at the big leagues.
