The Toronto Blue Jays haven't played the baseball they've been looking to play throughout the year, an issue as they look to make the postseason after making a few impressive offseason moves.
Sitting in third place in the American League East at 26-28, the Blue Jays have again been average over their last 10 games, sitting at 5-5.
But according to a recent report from Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, the Blue Jays could be getting healthy sometime in the near future with right-hander Max Scherzer, who the team signed during the winter.
According to Bannon, Scherzer threw a 45-pitch bullpen, and his velocity was up to standards. His next step is to face live hitters, but he didn't give a date on when that could happen.
Scherzer certainly isn't the arm that he once was, but it's tough to blame him at the stages of his career. The right-hander is 40 years old and will soon be 41.
He threw in 3.0 innings for the Blue Jays on May 29, allowing two earned runs.

It's been a lengthy IL stint for the veteran and future Hall of Famer, but if he can return for the Blue Jays before the deadline and give them some decent innings, perhaps they'll turn things around in the second half.
The Blue Jays have more than enough talent to compete with some of the other top teams in the American League, but they need to put it all together.
Unfortunately, they haven't been able to do that, and Scherzer’s injury is a big part of the reason why.
