Rangers sign catcher with .574 slugging who slipped through draft image

The Texas Rangers took a plunge into undrafted free agency after the MLB Draft.

They came up with an intriguing catcher prospect.

Jack Collins is the newest Rangers signee.

Collins was a catcher at Cal Poly. This past spring, he hit .307 with 12 homers, 16 doubles and 56 RBI. His OPS was .971, fantastic for a Division I catcher.

He had previously played college ball at the junior college level for Saddleback College and elsewhere in California at Long Beach State and Cal State-Northridge.

Collins starred at Saddleback (.376 average) before struggling at Long Beach State, but he broke back out at Cal Poly.

Now, he'll try to climb the Rangers' organizational ladder.
