At the 2024 trade deadline, the St. Louis Cardinals both sold and bought players. Sending away Tommy Edman to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Cardinals brought in a starter from the Chicago White Sox in Erick Fedde. One year later, the Cardinals are predicted to be the ones trading away Fedde at the MLB trade deadline.
Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report named Fedde, along with other Cardinals veterans, as players the team could sell at the MLB trade deadline. He predicted the Cardinals to be sellers and pointed towards Fedde as a top option for the team to shop.
"Otherwise," Rymer writes. "Ryan Helsley, Sonny Gray, Erick Fedde, and Miles Mikolas are here, too."
Fedde is in the final year of a two-year deal he signed with the White Sox in 2024, worth $15 million total. He's making $7.5 million in 2025, and with such a cheap deal, and his contract expiring, he would fetch a reasonable price on the market.
While St. Louis would love to get a haul for any player they trade away, Fedde might be the most intriguing candidate they have. In 2025, Fedde has a 3.65 ERA and a 3-6 record in 14 starts. Despite his bad record, the Cardinals pitcher has been solid in 2025.
He's pitched 79 innings, including a rare complete-game shutout. Fedde also struck out 51 batters and walked 34, pointing towards his command issues, which have hurt his season stats in 2025.
In 2024, when Fedde put together his best season, he walked 52 batters and struck out 154. He also pitched 177.1 innings, 55.2 of which came in St. Louis. His 3.30 ERA and 9-9 record were solid, and he was a top candidate at last year's trade deadline.
The 2025 deadline will be the same, as the Cardinals starter is likely to be one of the most sought-after names. He spent the 2023 season in Korea and came back to the MLB and became one of the best starters in the sport.
St. Louis is predicted to trade him at the deadline in 2025, and with how well he's pitched and his reasonable contract, there will be plenty of teams interested in the Cardinals' 2024 trade deadline acquisition.
