Before the season, it seemed as if St. Louis Cardinals' manager Oli Marmol's job status was up in the air as the team looked to get back into playoff contention.
The Cardinals haven't made it to the postseason in two years, and the youngest manager in the league is leading St. Louis back in the same direction in 2025.
Listed as sellers at the MLB trade deadline, the Cardinals moved a lot of their veteran pitching staff for younger prospects. This decision was planned by John Mozeliak as he looks to pass the torch to Chaim Bloom as president of baseball operations next season.
Oli Marmol addresses job status for the future
At 39 years old, Oli Marmol is listed as the youngest manager in all of baseball, and the lead man for the Cardinals opened up last Friday, acknowledging that St. Louis legends might take his managing position in the future.
Long-time Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina and first baseman Albert Pujols have mentioned their interest in managing at the big league level. This news speculates that both of them could be candidates for the position.
"Dude, I don’t worry about it. I never have. And I hope I never do. I’m 39. I’ve been managing for four years. I have everything I need. I don’t ever worry about my status," Marmol said in an interview last Friday.
"I’ve always just had my head down, brought value to the people I’m around, love all the people I’m around. And things tend to work out. I know it sounds clichéd, but I don’t care. I don’t... Have I made mistakes along the way? Absolutely. Would I redo some things? Absolutely. But you don’t have that opportunity. You learn from it. You keep moving."
There's no certainty in what a new president of baseball operations intends to do this offseason and for the 2026 season, but Cardinals manager Oli Marmol isn't stressing what his future holds.
