Cardinals make major $7.25 million decision after latest move image

The St. Louis Cardinals have to be ecstatic about the way the 2025 MLB draft went. Selecting Liam Doyle at No. 5, the Cardinals put themselves in a very good position moving forward with arguably the best left-handed starter in the draft class on their roster in the near future.

It's even possible that Doyle’s stuff is so good that he could make his debut much quicker than many anticipate.

And according to Jim Callis, not only did the Cardinals arguably get the best left-hander on the board, but they also got him for a much cheaper price. According to Callis, Doyle has signed with the Cardinals for $7.25 million, with the slot value being $8.1 million at pick No. 5.

“No. 5 overall pick Liam Doyle signs with @Cardinals for $7.25 million (slot value = $8,134,800). @Vol_Baseball  LHP, led NCAA D-I with 15.4 K/9, best fastball in  @MLBDraft , sits at 96 mph, touches 100, comes out of high release point & explodes at top of strike zone,” he wrote.

Saving nearly a million dollars is a big deal for the Cardinals in this situation.

Whether it's due to them attempting to sign some high school players who are considering going to college, or for other reasons, it's never a bad deal when a team can save a bit of cash.

Doyle will still get paid handsomely for his signing bonus, and the Cardinals will now have an opportunity to use that money elsewhere.

Ultimately, it's important he signed.

He’ll now have an opportunity to not only prove that he should’ve been picked higher, but perhaps be a staple in this Cardinals rotation for a very long time.
