The St. Louis Cardinals are playing much better baseball as of late, having won four consecutive games and improving to 18-19 on the year.
St. Louis still is not expected to be a clear contender in 2025, and it stands to reason why they still could, and should trade certain players at the deadline.
They attempted to trade Nolan Arenado to the Boston Red Sox last offseason but fell short when Boston signed Alex Bregman. But with first baseman Triston Casas out for the season, Boston needs a bat.
J.T. Buchheit of Redbird Rants noted that this could open the door for Arenado to be traded to Boston at the deadline.
"The Cardinals can't let the fantasy of contending in [John] Mozeliak's final season cloud their better judgment. If the Red Sox come calling for Arenado, the Cardinals need to pick up the phone on its first ring and get a deal done," Buccheit writes.

Mozeliak will soon hand the role of President of Baseball Operations over to Chaim Bloom, and Bloom, having served in the same role in Boston, has extensive knowledge of the Red Sox prospects.
The Red Sox obviously were on Arenado's list of teams he was willing to accept a trade from St. Louis to. He even went as far as being willing to move to first base to facilitate a trade.
With that in mind, Boston could move Arenado to first base if they acquire him at the deadline. Meanwhile, the Cardinals could open up an everyday spot at third base for either Nolan Gorman or Thomas Saggese.
St. Louis could even shed some payroll in the process, like they had planned to do last offseason. Moving Arenado would allow them to commit to their "reset."
We'll see if the Red Sox give the Cardinals a call about the eight-time All-Star.
