The San Francisco Giants are chasing a playoff spot.
But the best path to get there might actually involve trading away an All Star.
It's not as crazy as it sounds. It stems from the idea that the Giants have a strong bullpen, and trading from surplus may help weakness.
The Athletic's Will Sammon and Andrew Baggerly write that league executives think the Giants should consider trading away 2023 All-Star righty Camilo Doval.
"Rival executives wonder if the Giants should entertain offers for Doval given San Francisco’s needs elsewhere and the general state of the reliever market," they write.

Doval is under club control through 2027, which would give him to an acquiring team for two-and-a-half seasons.
The Giants could plug this season's All Star reliver, Randy Rodriguez, in as the closer.
Overall, the Giants have a 3.23 bullpen ERA, which is second in baseball.
San Francisco probably needs another starting pitcher and some more clutch hitting on the offense.
Doval might be their best path to getting that.
