Giants’ record since Rafael Devers trade is even worse than you think image

The San Francisco Giants didn't make the Rafael Devers trade just for this season.

They saw a chance to acquire a franchise cornerstone from the Boston Red Sox who can stick around in the Bay Area for the next decade.

But at the same time, it seemed like the kind of deal that would have to position the Giants to make some noise this season, too.

For whatever reason, that hasn't happened at all.

The Giants have the worst record in MLB since the trade for Devers, at 18-33. That's worse than the putrid Nationals and Rockies, who have each been 20-32 in that time frame.

The 28-year old Devers has had a solid batted ball profile since coming to San Francisco but doesn't quite have the results to show for it.

He's currently batting .230/.338/.408 for a .746 OPS. That includes 10 doubles, eight homers and 23 RBI in 51 games.

That triple-slash line is well below his career averages of .277/.349/.506 and an .854 OPS.

Devers had started the season ice cold in Boston but heated up plenty, so it doesn't seem like his career itself is going downhill. It's just an unfortunate sequence since the deal.

It's not all Devers' fault, either. The Giants have struggled defensively and on the base paths since getting Devers. Multiple young players who were meant to break out this season haven't.

The Giants turned into sellers at the trade deadline, an unexpected fate.

At this point, San Francisco fans would surely like to fast forward to next season and start fresh. The Giants have a ton of talent, led by Devers. It just didn't all add up in the right way this season.
