MLB sides have long held an obsession with the long ball, having embraced the medium as a form of art during Babe Ruth's pomp more than a century ago.

The memory of the moonshot continues to linger even as the sport takes on new contours. In fact, it has only become more prevalent in recent years, fueled by increasing bat speeds and launch angles and growing support for three-true outcome hitting.

The home run remains the most captivating of sights in baseball in the present day. The choreography is regimented yet fluid — a meatball dances to the middle of the plate only to be turned to smoke and ash. The man who delivered the offering crouches in agony, unable to even look at the unruly effort as it twirls to the bleachers.

Sixty feet and six inches away, the man who responded to the pitch gazes at his work in delight. After a lengthy stare down, he skips down the base paths, his stride growing all the more carefree with every step.

Home runs aren't merely a part of baseball in the 21st century. They are the most preeminent part of the sport, the thing that gets players paid and managers sacked.

So, just which side has produced the most home runs in a single game in league history? Here's what you need to know.

The AL East is well represented on the list of most prolific single-game home-run hitters. 10 AL East sides have clobbered at least eight home runs, including the 1987 Blue Jays, who top the list with 10 jacks against the Orioles on Sept. 14, 1987. Ernie Whitt ripped three offerings into the Exhibition Stadium concourses, while Rance Mulliniks tallied two homers. Lloyd Moseby, George Bell, Rob Ducey, and Fred McGriff also contributed to the fireworks.

Recent entries to the list of teams with most homers in a single match include the Yankees (nine, March 29, 2025 vs. Brewers; nine, Aug. 19, 2025 vs. Rays), Cubs (eight, July 4, 2025 vs. Cardinals), and Athletics (eight, July 14, 2024 vs. Phillies).

The Bronx Bombers are the only side to hit at least eight jacks in a single game four times, including two games in 2025 alone with nine HRs. The most recent such outing saw three players — Cody Bellinger, Giancarlo Stanton, and Jose Caballero — hit two homers apiece, with Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. each adding one.

The 2019 season saw a whopping five teams club eight or more dingers, more than any other season in league history.

Thirty-five teams have collected at least eight dingers in a single matchup. Each side that has achieved such a feat has gone on to win the game. Perhaps there's a correlation there.

Here's a look at the list of the greatest home run-hitting performances by a team in a single game.
