The first-place Blue Jays look to tighten their grip atop the AL East when they square off with the Rangers on "Friday Night Baseball."

Toronto seized control of first place with a four-game sweep of the Yankees at the beginning of July, and it hasn't looked back since. Star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is playing like an MVP candidate, hitting .376 with a 1.131 OPS since the All-Star break.

But it's not just Guerrero. The Blue Jays have received significant contributions from up and down their lineup. Most recently, utility man Ernie Clement and outfielder Joey Loperfido have helped carry the offense in August.

The Rangers have legitimate playoff aspirations, even though losing six of their last seven games has cratered them to the .500 mark. Perhaps All-Star right-hander Jacob deGrom can help start a turnaround on Friday. deGrom has a 2.86 ERA in 23 starts this year, and he'll get the ball on Friday.

In May, the Blue Jays won a low-scoring three-game series in Arlington, with the two teams combining to score just seven runs.
