The New York Yankees are in shop mode ahead of the trade deadline. They need help in several areas.
New York specifically needs help at third base, in their starting rotation, and also in their bullpen. The deadline is now 10 days away, and the Yankees might have a clearer idea of what they want.
The team is three games back in the American League East, but they are starting to play better baseball.
Jim Bowden of The Athletic notes that Eugenio Suarez of the Arizona Diamondbacks has been considered as a third base upgrade. However, he also notes that New York might have some reservations.
"In terms of third base, they’ve been linked to Eugenio Suárez of the Diamondbacks, but there is concern about his defense. Other possible third-base trade targets include Royals All-Star Maikel Garcia — in theory, Kansas City would have interest in one of the Yankees’ outfielders to play left field for them," Bowden reported.

Suarez brings power from the right side of the plate and recently had a big series against the St. Louis Cardinals. He is slashing .257/.328/.601 with 35 home runs, 85 RBI, a 3.4 WAR and a .928 OPS.
However, the Yankees clearly have some reservations about his defense, and may look into other options that are stronger in that regard. Still, Suarez would be a good pickup for the Yankees.
Yankee Stadium is very hitter friendly, and the two-time All-Star might be able to easily continue his power surge down the stretch.
But there also may be better options for the Bronx Bombers if they value defense. Defensive struggles certainly played a role in them losing the World Series last October.
It will be interesting to see where New York lands in its search for third base help.
