Yankees’ Gerrit Cole is set for new role with New York during injury image

This hasn’t been the baseball season Gerrit Cole would’ve drawn up for himself.

The New York Yankees’ right-handed ace won’t throw a single inning all year. He tore his UCL and is out for the season after spring Tommy John surgery.

But it sounds like Cole is finding a new way to keep himself busy.

On Sunday’s YES Network broadcast, play-by-play man Michael Kay shared that Cole is going to be doing some broadcasting.

Kay said Cole will be in the booth for “significant time” during the Yankees’ Tuesday broadcast.

That’s a really cool opportunity for Cole, who must be envisioning a post-playing career doing some kind of broadcasting.

The Yankees have a franchise pitching legend in the booth often in David Cone. Maybe Cole could eventually take the baton from Cone.

Of course, Cole isn’t planning on being done anytime soon. He’s rehabbing hard to be back for the 2026 MLB season.

But in the meantime, why not impart some knowledge of this current Yankees squad to the loyal fanbase who watches on YES each night?

Great move by Cole and by the Yankees to allow this to happen.
