Yankees' crazy play creates history not done in 5,086 days image

One of the weirdest plays the New York Yankees have had this season resulted in a kind of win they haven't had in more than 5,000 days.

The end score was 1-0, Yankees over Royals. And the key detail was that the only run of the game was unearned.

That's the first time New York has done such a thing since July 10, 2011, according to Baseball Reference's Katie Sharp, which is 5,086 days before Thursday night.

The play, shown below, was wild for multiple reasons, from the ball bouncing off a glove to a runner falling on the way home to a sad throw not getting the job done anyway.

The error on the play wasn't charged on the batted ball. Paul Goldschmidt got credit for a single for that.

Rather, the error was on the throw home, which would've nailed Reyes after he fell over if it was on target.

But the Royals couldn't get the job done, New York's pitching was brilliant, and in the end, the Yankees were 1-0 winners on a run they technically didn't even earn.
