Yankees add another reliever, get Camilo Doval from Giants in buzzer-beater image

The New York Yankees added yet another bullpen arm at the very end of the trade deadline.

The Yankees are acquiring flamethrowing closer Camilo Doval from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for right-hander Trystan Vrieling (formerly Yankees No. 19), catcher/third baseman Jesus Rodriguez (formerly Yankees No. 25), third baseman Parks Harber and pitcher Carlos De La Rosa, per Jack Curry.

New York has now added Doval, Jake Bird and David Bednar to bolster their bullpen for a deep postseason run.

Doval, 28, was one of Major League Baseball’s best relievers for three seasons and had a meltdown last season. However, Doval looks like the guy that was dominating the league again.

In 47 appearances this season, Doval is 4-2 with a 3.09 ERA and a 1.20 WHIP. He has 15 saves in 19 opportunities.

New York desperately needed to address their bullpen woes and have added three of the league’s top relievers.

Vrieling, 24, hasn’t had the most success in New York’s farm system. Across three minor league levels, Vrieling is 1-2 with a 4.36 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP in 14 appearances (12 starts).

Rodriguez, 23, excels at putting the ball in play but tends to chase pitches out of the strike zone. Across Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Rodriguez has five home runs and 43 RBI while slashing .300/.390/.404 in 85 games this season.

Harber and De La Rosa were throw-ins to sweeten the deal for San Francisco.

The Yankees make a lot of moves and have put a lot of pressure on the first place Toronto Blue Jays in the American League East.
