It'll be really tough for Aaron Judge to hit .400 now.
The New York Yankees superstar is in the midst of his first slump of the season, and his batting average is down to .366, so his chase of that history could be over.
Except, pause for a second and think about that sentence. Judge's batting average is down nearly 30 points from a week ago, and he's still hitting .366 before action begins on Thursday.
That's still leading the AL, even ahead of Athletics star rookie Jacob Wilson (.359). In fact, it's leading all of Major League Baseball.
That's how incredibly good Judge was in the first three months of the season. He could go through a dismal stretch and still sit atop baseball in batting average.

And yeah, it has definitely been rough.
Judge is 2 for his last 24 with 15 strikeouts.
He's admitted himself that he's chasing too many pitches. Sometimes, hitters get in ruts. It happens, even to Judge.

That said, his season OPS is still a legendary 1.192.
Judge has had a remarkable season, and he'll hit up again soon enough. In the meantime, marvel at what his stats look like right now even after a brutal slump. That's how good he was beforehand.
