With the New York Yankees needing a third baseman, even more now after Oswaldo Cabrera went down with an injury, it remains uncertain what the plan is for the organization.
The Yankees are in a position where they could land either a second or third baseman and move Jazz Chisholm Jr. to the other position.
Regardless, finding an infielder has to be a priority at the deadline.
Looking for potential trade options, Brandon Kuty of The Athletic named Willi Castro of the Minnesota Twins as a potential option.
Castro has been very average for much of his career and hasn't played at the level he’s been hoping to start the season, hitting .221 with a 71 OPS+.
He was an All-Star during the 2024 campaign, but he only hit .247 with a 101 OPS+. For much of his career, he's been an average hitter.
“Willi Castro of the Minnesota Twins could make sense. He was on the IL with a right oblique strain from late April until the beginning of May. He’s played a lot of second base since his return, but he could handle third base. He’s making $6.4 million this season and hitting .221 with a homer, five RBIs and a .613 OPS,” he wrote.

The Yankees won’t have to give up too much to land Castro, who hits free agency at the end of the year, something they might be interested in.
However, for a team looking to win a World Series, adding his bat doesn't necessarily help them get there. There should be other options available, and while how cheap he is could entice the Yankees, they need to be smart here and do what's best for the team.
