The New York Mets could be in the market for starting pitchers at the trade deadline. Their rotation is decimated by injuries, but they could find a quality arm near the trade deadline.

Griffin Canning will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his Achilles. Sean Manaea, Tylor Megill and Kodai Senga are also on the injured list. They have lost 14 of their last 17, following their loss to the Brewers on Wednesday. If they do not address the rotation soon, they could start to slide even further.

The Athletic's Jim Bowden polled over 40 MLB executives, and they suggested Andrew Heaney could be a player traded before the July 31 trade deadline. Bowden noted the Mets could be a fit.

"Heaney, 34, has a 4.16 ERA over 17 starts," wrote Bowden. "The veteran lefty is a quality back-of-the-rotation inning-eater who could especially help a contending team that’s been dealing with rotation injuries, such as the Mets."

Heaney won a World Series in 2023 with the Texas Rangers. His ERA is not the greatest, but he is a veteran pitcher who could fill a need for the Mets while some of their starters get healthy. He is in his 12th season and has plenty of experience.

He has some experience coming out of the bullpen in the last few seasons. If the Mets do get Megill, Senga and Manaea back together, they could use Heaney as an option out of their bullpen.
