The New York Mets have only one glaring need at the trade deadline, at least from a position player perspective.
Most of the lineup is in a great spot, but center field looks shaky. Tyrone Taylor has become the full-time starter in Jose Siri's absence, and he's managed an OPS+ of 86--serviceable, but not ideal.
Unfortunately, the center field market doesn't look all that promising. Chicago White Sox All-Star Luis Robert Jr. has fallen off the face of the earth, and Baltimore Orioles standout Cedric Mullins isn't playing strong defense anymore.
There's one team that might be able to save the Mets, though--the division rival Miami Marlins. Miami is undertaking a long-term rebuild, and it seems as though just about any player--including starting center fielder Dane Myers, would be available for the right price.
On Thursday, Matthew Schmidt of Marlins on SI speculated that the two sides might work out an agreement to send Myers, who is under team control through the 2029 season, to Queens.
"Myers is slashing .302/.352/.431 with three homers and 15 RBI over 116 plate appearances in 2025 while playing genuinely elite defense to boot," Schmidt wrote. "The 29-year-old is under team control for the foreseeable future, and while he isn't exactly a prospect at this stage, he is blossoming right before our eyes this year.

"Remember: the Marlins sent pitcher Jesus Luzardo to the Philadelphia Phillies during the offseason, so they don't seem to care all that much about trading within the division."
Myers is far less established than the majority of the players on the Mets roster, and he's only appeared in 41 games this year due to injury. He does have three defensive runs saved in center field, which puts him two behind Taylor in roughly half the games.
It will be intriguing to see if New York does make a push to land this division rival.
