Dodgers writer urges team to trade $2.1 million pitcher to improve roster image

The Major League Baseball trade deadline is next Thursday, July 31st, and the Los Angeles Dodgers will have major decisions to make.

Los Angeles sits with a 60-43 record at the moment, which is good for second place in the National League.

The Dodgers are coming off a World Series-winning season, looking to bring home the title for a second consecutive year, which means they will likely buy and sell some players at the deadline.

One Dodgers player whose name has been thrown into trade talks is pitcher Dustin May, who is in the final year of his one-year, $2.1 million contract.

May will be a free agent at the season's end, and Zachary Howell from ClutchPoints thinks the Dodgers should trade May at this year's deadline to acquire help at other positions.

"However, the plethora of pitching available to Roberts affects players like May. There is simply no room for him to get consistent starts in the rotation. At this point in the season, the 27-year-old is a sporadic starter who is having an up-and-down season," Howell wrote. "While his lack of rhythm is not his fault, Dodgers fans are not satisfied with his current level of production. Now that their rotation is one piece away from being complete, May becomes expendable. That label makes him a player who should be shopped around for help at other parts of the roster. After Roberts lost Max Muncy to injury, it became obvious that the Dodgers need help at third base. A proven starting pitcher should be enough for them to secure a capable replacement."

May has been with the Dodgers since 2019 and finished fifth in the Rookie of the Year voting in 2020.

It would be wise for the Dodgers to shop May since he will likely walk at the end of the season, and the team could get something in return for him.
