The Houston Astros finished with a loss in their first of a highly anticipated three-game series against the team that currently holds the best record in the American League, the Detroit Tigers.

After losing in a dominant game by the Tigers with a final score of 10-0, Houston is now just 1.5 games ahead of the Seattle Mariners for the top spot in the AL West.

Two Cy Young Award candidates in the Astros' Hunter Brown and the Tigers' Tarik Skubal are set to take the mound on Tuesday, but after the series opener, Houston could be making the necessary steps in moving on from one player.

Taylor Trammell losing playing time with the Astros

Astros outfielder Taylor Trammell made his team debut back in late June after being traded from the New York Yankees last offseason. He's been able to receive starts this year all throughout the outfield, as Houston's dealt with inconsistent play from the positions and numerous injuries from players like Chas McCormick and Jake Meyers.

It seems that Trammell is beginning to be implemented into the lineup less and less as the season progresses. McCormick returned to the lineup back in mid-July, and Meyers will look to return sometime this month.

Trammell was getting consistent at-bats earlier in the season against right-handed pitchers. After picking up just one hit in his last 15 plate appearances, the 27-year-old has made just two starts in Houston's last five games against righties.

CBS Sports suggested that Trammell's time with the Astros "looks to be over." This could also be due to the emergence of rookie outfielders Cam Smith and Jacob Melton, with Smith making 108 appearances and Melton 18 appearances in the outfield this season.
