The Houston Astros have dealt with a plethora of injuries all season long. From multiple starters to Jeremy Pena and Jake Meyers missing a lot of time, and now Josh Hader, the Astros have been banged up all year.
One of the most prominent names who've been out for the majority of the year has been Yordan Alvarez. But, as Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports, Joe Espada announced that Alvarez is set to begin a rehab assignment in Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday, August 19th.

Getting Alvarez back would be a great boost for the offense. While the offense has been solid as of late, Alvarez's return to the lineup would be huge.
In his limited action earlier in the year, across 29 games and 100 at-bats, Alvarez had a .210 batting average with seven runs scored, 21 hits, four doubles, three home runs, 18 RBIs, and a .646 OPS.
It was shaping up to be his worst offensive season of his incredible big league career, but then he hit the injured list and has been out since the beginning of May. Over three months later, Alvarez is making progress towards a return.

This news, that he's set to begin a rehab stint, is the closest he's been to making his return to the lineup since his injury in May. His hand injury has been tricky, and he even suffered a setback in the middle of summer.
But now, after the trade deadline, and with a little over a month to go in the regular season, the Astros' All-Star slugger is poised to make his first appearance in a lineup since his injury.
He was set to take live at-bats on Saturday, August 16th, and based on this new update, those at-bats must've gone well. The 28-year-old Astros slugger is closing in on a return, which would be huge for the Astros amid their efforts to keep the Seattle Mariners at bay in the AL West.
