Astros trade proposal lands 108 RBI Diamondbacks slugger image

The Houston Astros have a very strong roster from top to bottom. With a great pitching staff and impressive sluggers up and down the lineup, the Astros don't have much they need to add in the build-up to the MLB trade deadline. But, there is one player who would be a great fit in Houston who was named an Astros trade target.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, the Astros have a litany of possible trade targets among left-handed batters, and Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor is one of them.

Naylor, in his age-28 season and his first with the Diamondbacks, is an incredible power-hitting first baseman who could become available at the MLB trade deadline. With the season-ending injury to Corbin Burnes, the Diamondbacks are leaning towards selling off their veteran players.

The Astros could have reason to target Naylor as they need to add another left-handed bat to their lineup. Naylor, a first baseman for the Diamondbacks, would slide into the lineup over Christian Walker, who's struggled, and provide more depth in the designated hitter department when Yordan Alvarez is back.

Through the first 65 games of the season, Naylor is batting .297 with a .818 OPS and a very solid 21-34 walk-to-strikeout ratio. He's totaled 74 hits, 16 doubles, 1 triple, 8 home runs, 45 RBIs, and 32 runs scored in 2025. Naylor's production at the plate has been incredible, and he'd be a huge piece for the Astros to acquire.

Naylor, in his seventh season in MLB, is in the last year of his current deal and will be a free agent after the 2025 season. Signed through 2025 for $10.9 million, Naylor won't be too expensive a player for the Astros to target.

With the Diamondbacks likely being sellers, Naylor is a very possible trade candidate come the MLB trade deadline for the Astros. Houston would add a left-handed bat, who can take over for the disappointing Christian Walker, and help round out the Astros star-studded lineup in 2025.
