The Houston Astros received another update regarding injured third baseman Isaac Paredes this week, suggesting that his season might not be over after all.

After suffering a hamstring injury on July 19, Paredes was given two options: undergo surgery, which would end his season, or rehab the injury.

Paredes is opting with the latter, choosing to rehab the injury instead of seeing the best season of his career end early due to surgery.

“His whole opinion on this is, he wants to work hard to try to get back this season,” Astros GM Dana Brown said, per the Associated Press. Of course, he’s going to dedicate himself to getting back.”

Paredes has been one of the Astros’ best hitters this season when healthy, he’s hitting .259 with 19 home runs, 50 RBI’s and a .829 OPS as he was also named to his second-career All-Star game.

“He’s doing well and he’s working hard,” manager Joe Espada said, per the Associated Press. “He’s in good spirits, and I know he would rather be on the field. We hope for the best.”

The Astros have been beaten up on the injury front this season, losing not only Paredes, but also seeing Yordan Alvarez, Jeremy Pena, Jake Meyers, and several starting pitchers miss time with injuries this season. Despite this, the Astros are still 63-50, holding a three-game lead in the AL West. If the team can get healthy soon, they’ll be firmly in contention for yet another World Series title — as if they weren’t already.
